About the capitals of the Balkans
The Balkans has 11 capital cities to learn. Some are the country's obvious largest city, and a good number are deliberately not — which is where a capitals quiz earns its keep.
The spread is wide: Romania holds 19.0 million people while Montenegro has 623 thousand. By land area Romania covers 238,391 km² against 10,908 km² for Kosovo.
The largest country by population in the Balkans is Romania, whose capital is Bucharest. Purpose-built and relocated capitals are common enough here that the largest city is often the wrong answer.
The table below lists all 11 countries of the Balkans against their capitals, so you can read it as a study sheet and then come back and play.

Frequently asked questions
How many countries are in this quiz?
This quiz covers all 11 entries in the Balkans. Questions are drawn from the full set, and the complete list appears in the table on this page.
Do I need an account?
No. There is no sign-up and no login. Your score stays in your own browser and is never sent anywhere.
How are the wrong answers chosen?
Deliberately, not at random. Each question prefers flags that are genuinely confusable with the right answer, then countries from the same sub-region, so guessing by elimination does not work.
Is it free?
Yes, completely free with no limit on how many times you play.
