About the capitals of the European Union
The European Union has 27 capital cities to learn. Some are the country's obvious largest city, and a good number are deliberately not — which is where a capitals quiz earns its keep.
The spread is wide: Germany holds 83.5 million people while Malta has 580 thousand. By land area France covers 551,695 km² against 316 km² for Malta.
The largest country by population in the European Union is Germany, whose capital is Berlin. Purpose-built and relocated capitals are common enough here that the largest city is often the wrong answer.
The table below lists all 27 countries of the European Union against their capitals, so you can read it as a study sheet and then come back and play.

Frequently asked questions
How many countries are in this quiz?
This quiz covers all 27 entries in the European Union. Questions are drawn from the full set, and the complete list appears in the table on this page.
Do I need an account?
No. There is no sign-up and no login. Your score stays in your own browser and is never sent anywhere.
How are the wrong answers chosen?
Deliberately, not at random. Each question prefers flags that are genuinely confusable with the right answer, then countries from the same sub-region, so guessing by elimination does not work.
Is it free?
Yes, completely free with no limit on how many times you play.
