About the river quiz
This quiz covers 52 rivers, from the Nile and the Amazon down to the Thames. Each question gives you the length, the continent and the sea or ocean the river ends in, and asks which river that describes.
Wrong answers are drawn from rivers of a similar length rather than at random, so guessing by size alone does not work. Lengths are the commonly-cited figures — they vary by a few per cent between sources depending on where a source stream is taken to begin.

Frequently asked questions
Why do river lengths differ between sources?
A river has no single agreed starting point. Measurements differ over which headstream counts as the source, whether a delta channel is included, and how tightly meanders are traced. Figures here are the commonly-cited ones and can vary by a few per cent elsewhere.
Is the Nile or the Amazon the longest river?
Most sources still give the Nile, at about 6,650 km against roughly 6,400 km for the Amazon, but surveys that take a different Peruvian headstream as the Amazon's source put it ahead. The Amazon is far larger by discharge either way.
